An elderly couple is in critical condition after a driver struck them near the intersection of Surf Avenue and W. 27th Street in Coney Island on Oct. 8.

The 78-year-old man and woman were crossing the avenue when a driver travelling eastbound hit the pair at 6:13 pm, police said.

The couple was not crossing in a crosswalk, a police report noted.

Paramedics took the couple to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition, and the driver remained at the scene, police said. The crash is still under investigation, according to law enforcement sources.
