These kids know how to jump into action.
Students skipped rope to raise money for the American Heart Society at the Jump Rope for Heart Jump-A-Thon at Sheepshead Bay’s PS 197 on Feb. 13. The altruistic athletes jumped alongside their peers — and one volunteer at the event said the fund-raiser was also a great way to get sedentary kids moving.
“It is more important now because of the technology and everything,” said Kojo Mensah, a professional basketball player for a Brazilian team who grew up in Canarsie. “Not only healthwise but socially, to get these kids around each other and being active around each other.”
The youngsters jumped individually and in groups — and Mensah said he was thrilled to see the real-life teamwork between kids who have grown up playing games on a screen.
“It is not just from a handheld — they’re physically apart of something,” he said.
