This man was driven mad

Driven crazy

A thief swiped a Mazda off S. Ninth Street overnight on Jan. 3 — and the driver has himself to blame (partly, that is).

The forgetful car owner told cops that he left the keys in his black sedan when he parked it on the block between Driggs Avenue and Roebling Street that night, but when he returned to it the next morning, it was gone.

But after a cursory search, the owner found the car — now locked — on S. 10th Street, and called cops and a tow truck to help him recover the vehicle.

Before the help arrived, though, the alleged carjacker exited an apartment, confronted the driver, and made off with the car — for a second time, that is.

Lord of the rings

Burglars made off with $2,300 worth of goods from a Meserole Street apartment on Dec. 29.

The 75-year-old victim told cops that she returned to the home, which is between Graham Avenue and Humboldt Street, at around 7 pm to find that thieves had broken through the front door and helped themselves to a laptop and rings.

That’s rich

Nearly $60,000 in jewelry mysteriously disappeared from a woman’s S. Ninth Street bedroom on Dec. 29.

The victim told cops that she had been admiring her pricey jewelry collection that morning, but when she went to pull out the baubles again at around 11:30 am, she discovered her dresser drawer open and her jewelry box lying empty on the bed.

The missing bling included a $25,000 necklace and $15,000 ring, she said.

The victim told police that she did not hear any noise or see anyone in her apartment during the interval when the jewelry went missing.

Charity case

A robber made off with a wad of cash meant for charity while his victim slept in his Bedford Avenue apartment on Jan 2.

The altruistic saver said he awoke at 6 am to find an open window in the bathroom of his apartment, which is between Division Avenue and Clymer Street. Worse, a lockbox that he usually kept in his kitchen cabinet was open and $150 was gone.

Mother lode

A thief pilfered a mom’s pocketbook on Bedford Avenue on Dec. 30.

The woman said she was pushing her baby carriage between S. Ninth and S. 10th streets at 4 pm when she realized that her purse and charge cards were missing.

By the time she called her card company, the thief had rung up several purchases.

She also lost her insurance cards and driver’s license.
