More than 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong bra size, killing their support, weakening their posture and ultimately causing pain to themselves and, perhaps, others.

But don’t take it from us — go see expert bra fitter Iris Clarke, whose cleavage-enhancing work has been recognized by Oprah, and more important, several members of our staff.

“Most women make the mistake of going too wide on their band width and too small on their cup size,” Clarke said at an exclusive bra fitting demonstration last Thursday. “They have yet to see how beautiful they are.”

Clarke has been in the bust biz for 30 years, designing and fitting bras for high-end brands while helping women “reach their potential.” Her advice has culminated into her own shop, Iris Lingerie on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill.

Walking in, Clarke is right there with her no-nonsense pointers. The perfect fit will often call for a larger cup size and a tight band that pinches a woman’s “back fat” in all the right places — it’ll make its wearer look sexier and will add back support that will ease pain in the long run.

Second, Clarke doesn’t just pick a band width based on gauging her customer’s circumference with measuring tape. That’s the main reason women (and their bra fitters) fail at finding the right size. Don’t let the numbers fool you: A woman choosing a 36C would likely get a more-comfortable fit in a 32F.

To the ladies, Clarke’s advice trumps all.

“She knew my bra size right when I walked in,” said Fort Greene resident Chandra Bailey, who recently got “corrected” on her size. “I’ve changed the way I buy bras. I look hot!”
