Believe the hype!

Legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy will headline a free show in a Brownsville park this summer as part of the annual Summer Stage season, which stages concerts, theater performances, dance parties, and movie screenings across four Brooklyn green spaces.

The politically conscious wordsmiths behind hits “Don’t Believe the Hype” and “Fight the Power” will take over Betsy Head Park on June 21.

Other highlights of the 2016 program include a gratis gig by local alternative rockers Blonde Redhead in Red Hook Park on June 16 and an opera performance in Brooklyn Bridge Park on June 24.

Broadway singer Lisa Simone Kelly will also belt out songs from her new album in Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Herbert Von King Park on June 28, followed by a screening of “What Happened, Miss Simone?” — a documentary about her mother, famed singer and activist Nina Simone.

Summer Stage at various locations around Brooklyn, June 13–July 3. Free. Full lineup here.

Reasonable discourse

John Wasserman from Prospect Heights says:
Pardon me, but where is this "Brownsville"? Why does this man in the drawing have a giant, non-digital clock around his neck? Surely, it must be hard to for him the read it. Might I suggest a "Fit Bite"? You're looking at a very confused John Wasserman at the moment. Also, do you mind my asking why his friend is wearing army pants that are cut off??? Surely there will be bullets flying at this rock concert...Let's hope his legs make it through his routine.
