A truck driver plowed into a cyclist pedaling near Court Street and Atlantic Avenue on Thursday night, sending the woman to the hospital with a bleeding knee, police said.

The 52-year-old victim told cops she was walking her two-wheeler along Court Street towards the Brooklyn Bridge, and when she mounted the bike to cross the intersection at Atlantic Avenue around 6:15 pm, the big-rig rumbling along that street towards the East River smashed into her.

But a nearby pedestrian told officials the woman crossed the street against the light, and the driver said he had a green light at the time of the collision, too, authorities said.

The 37-year-old trucker remained at the scene after hitting the cyclist, and emergency responders transported her to Methodist Hospital with a cut to her left knee, cops said.

Police let the driver go without any summonses, but are still investigating the crash, a department spokesman said.

Reasonable discourse

Jim from Cobble Hill says:
As much as truck traffic is a dangerous nuisance in the area, if you cross against the light, this shiit is gonna happen.

MJ from Bay Ridge says:
The new LED streetlight reduces light pollution by reducing sparseness - but it also creates many darkness between streetlights.

Henry Ford from Bay Ridge says:
Looks like the witness was not properly indoctrinated by the streetsblogger crowd. They are supposed to lie and say the truck was careening out of control and the cyclist was purer than freshly fallen snow. The witness must be a native, and gasp, owns a car.

Jimbo from Brooklyn Heights says:
This has always been a dangerous intersection, but they changed the light pattern not too long ago. There's now a pattern where westbound traffic on atlantic gets a red light but the eastbound traffic still has a greenlight because eastbound traffic also has a protected left turn. Not surprised it led to an accident, it's not intuitive(even though it is necessary, there were terrible backups turning left onto court before).

Tyler from pps says:
Hey Henry.... We all know you're a d*ck, you don't need to prove it every time.

You know it's a FACT that the NYPD is very sloppy when it comes to any and all traffic collisions, right? It doesn't even have to include cyclists or pedestrians (which, we all know, are subhuman to you). But even collisions with and among motorists are treated like an exercise to see how fast they can make it go away, rather than doing police work.

It's well-established that you can get away with murder as long as you use your car instead of any other method. Just call it an "accident."

Juvenile name calling, straw men, and calling the police a bunch of lazy slobs (the benign interpretation) in one post. It’s a ty from pps hat trick.

Jason from Park Slope says:
Tyler is 100% correct Tyler. The dishonesty and incompetence of the NYPD in investigating and prosecuting reckless drivers who kill in this city is well documented and pretty much indisputable at this point.

Tyler from pps says:
Henry -- I believe the correct "interpretation" of my comment is that the NYPD has PROVEN themselves inadequate and incompetent when it comes to traffic collision investigation and prosecution.

So, no, not lazy slobs.... bad at their job. There's a big difference. And the latter is worse.
