Six Cyclones pitchers can’t stop Tri-City

The Cyclones missed an opportunity for a sweep on Thursday when Mac Lozer gave up four runs to the Valley Cats in the seventh, blowing Brooklyn’s thin 3–2 lead.

The Clones got on top in the second when Carlos Cortes knocked in Chase Chambers, who had singled and advanced to second on a walk.

After Tri–City scored two runs, Cortes smacked a solo homer off a 2–2 pitch in the fifth, the first of his professional career, to tie it at 2.

Our boys took a one run lead in the sixth when, after two walks, Nick Meyer’s groundout was misplayed, allowing Wagner Lagrange to score from second.

After their fourth inning rally secured the lead, Tri–City scored again in the eighth.

In a possible peek into the future of baseball, Cyclones manager Edgardo Alfonzo used six pitchers on the night, with his starter, Kevin Smith, coming out after giving up just one hit in two innings. Smith was followed by Tylor Megill (two runs in two innings), Billy Oxford (one hit and two strikeouts in two innings) Lozer, Yeudy Colon (one-third of an inning), and Ryan Selmer (two hits and one run in one inning).

Of course, we’ll talk to Alfonzo about the possible strategy tonight when our boys return home to face Lowell at 6:40 pm at MCU Park.
