Four people were killed and three were injured in a mass shooting at an illegal gambling club in Crown Heights Saturday morning, police say.

Police responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 7 a.m. inside 74 Utica Avenue, where they found four dead men and two discharged firearms.

Those killed have been identified as 47-year-old Dominick Wimbush, 36-year-old Terrence Bishop, 32-year-old John Thomas, and 37-year-old Chester Goode.

Two other men and one woman were injured, police told reporters. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police say they saw evidence of gambling such as cards and dice at the location but did not see evidence of alcohol consumption.

Law enforcement officials suspect Goode thought he was being cheated and opened fire, before being shot by Wimbush, who worked as a bouncer at the den, according to the New York Times. Bishop and Thomas were then killed in the crossfire.

The shooting was listed on the Gun Violence Archive, which tracks the country’s mass shootings.

Councilman Robert Cornegy (D–Crown Heights), bemoaned the killings and called for more community level reforms to combat gun violence.

“Governor Cuomo and New York State have done a lot to prevent and end gun violence, but it is clear there is more work to be done at the community level and beyond,” Cornegy said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
