Student elections held at Visitation Academy

Democracy was putinto action as fifth through eighth graders at Visitation Academy held schoolwide elections for student council, class president and vice president.

Students from the school, 8902 Ridge Boulevard in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, voted for who those who they felt were most qualified to assume the responsibilities of directing the various eighth grade fund-raising projects during the school year.

The candidates delivered their presentations, informing the student body what they would hope to achieve throughout the year. Suggestions included sending the troops care packages, helping the homeless, being involved with whatever functions are held at the school and in the community, fund-raising for a new playground, a talent show, recycling in the school and community, a car wash, pajama day, field trips, and more.

After each candidatedelivered their speeches, the choice was difficult but, in the end, the following were chosen: Alexandra Marsillo to be president; Nikki Knauer, vice president; Gabriella Weick, secretary; Nadia Bon, treasurer; Rita Nasso, class president, and Amie McManus, class vice president.

Congratulations to the winners, and to all the candidates who ran.
