The Subway restaurant chain, the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise, has named Jonathan Feld, of Manhattan, as the recipient of its 2009 Franchisee of the Year award for multi-unit owners from the chain’s North American markets. The announcement was made the company’s annual convention held in Washington DC.
As a Subway Franchisee of the Year, Feld is honored for his accomplishments in building sales and increasing profitability while also achieving excellent store evaluations. He was selected from among the chain’s more than 12,000 North American franchisees.
“There are so many great owner operators in the Subway system. I am thrilled to have been recognized as one of the top performers among so many talented entrepreneurs,” said Feld, who first became a Subway franchisee in 2002.
Feld currently owns five Subway restaurants in Manhattan and Queens. This highest volume location, at 11 Broadway, attracts both tourists and Wall Street business persons because it is just south of the Statue of the Bull and immediately adjacent to Battery Park and Bowling Green Park.
His second location, at 15 South William Street, stands on a beautiful cobblestone pedestrian only street. This location is very unique because it has two entrances on both sides of the building; one entrance on South William and the other at 55 Stone Street. The two queue lines allow the opportunity to move customers through the food ordering line much faster than the traditional build outs.
His third downtown location is at 30 Broad Street next to the New York Stock Exchange. Branching out to Queens this year, he became the franchisee at the new Citi Field Stadium, home of the New York Mets. The two seasonal locations are only open during home games and events at the stadium.
His future goals with the Subway brand include opening more restaurants in non-traditional locations, such as hospitals and university campuses. These captive audience locations are often hard to come by as they are often sought after by many QSR brands.
