The Brooklyn Diabetes Task Force will celebrate its Sixth Annual Diabetes Walk for Health, August 23 in Prospect Park at the Bartel Lot by 15th Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The walk offers two options: a 1.5 mile and a 3.0 mile walk route depending on your level of fitness. Festivities will include information on diabetes and related topics, health screenings, music, and free raffles. Attendance is free of charge and all are welcome.
Recently, the media has focused attention to the diabetes epidemic in the US and in New York. Brooklyn has one of the highest incidences of diabetes in the five boroughs. Statistics from participating organizations revealed that one in three residents that the Brooklyn Diabetes Task Force screen in Central Brooklyn has diabetes.
The Brooklyn Diabetes Task Force is committed to raising awareness about diabetes prevention and management through this walk. It is important for the public to learn about the risks for diabetes, how it can be prevented and the management options available to them. Health professionals will be available to answer any questions.
