Two local residents were honored recently by the 68th Precinct.
At the June meeting of the precinct’s community council, which was held in the station house, 333 65th Street, Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriguez, the precinct commander, singled out Mohammad Dolah for his selflessness and humanity, and Edwin Perez, who is a client of the Guild for Exceptional Children.
On May 25, Rodriguez recalled, Dolah had made the difference between life and death for his neighbors, whose house was on fire, when he, “Responded to the scene with a ladder and saved the whole family.”
Then, said Rodriguez, “He opened up his house to the family, and today they’re still staying with him. That’s what life’s all about – helping your neighbor.”
As for Perez, Rodriguez said that when he had visited the Guild in May to receive an award, Perez — who volunteers at the Bay Ridge Community Service Center (formerly, the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults), Xaverian High School and the New Hope Center as well as at a local nursing home —“Drew me a nice picture.
“He exemplifies everything about the Guild,” Rodriguez stressed.
In addition, the community council recognized five members who hadn’t missed a single meeting all year. They are Franca Bova, Rosa Casella, Joe Lomuscio, John Nargi and George Samara, who is also the group’s sergeant at arms.
