A pincher in a white parka is being sought for trying to knock over a Sheepshead Bay Road Citibank on Dec. 15 — one of at least three bone-head bank robbers that’s hit southern Brooklyn, all unsuccessfully, this Christmas season.
The thief, who is believed to be in his mid-50s and sporting a salt and pepper goatee, entered the bank between E. 16th Street and Jerome Avenue at 5:50 pm and passed a threatening note to the teller, demanding all the money from the till.
But the goon got cold feet when the teller stepped away from her window, running out of the bank empty-handed.
The Dec. 15 robbery attempt was the fourth to take place in the area since the beginning of the year, police said.
On Dec. 3, a thief entered a Flatbush Avenue bank in Marine Park at 10:38 am and passed a threatening note to the teller before fleeing empty-handed when the teller went to speak to a supervisor. At 3:45 pm that afternoon, the same man was seen passing a note at a HSBC bank on Flatbush Avenue between Glenwood Road and Avenue H, but left when the teller flat out refused to follow his orders.
This year’s biggest bankboozle has to be the 34-year-old who tried to rob the Capital One Bank on Ralph Avenue in Mill Basin, apparently unaware that two uniformed police officers were in the lobby withdrawing money from the bank’s ATM.
Witnesses said that the thief, who was wearing a ski mask, was more brazen than most and almost left the bank between Avenues K and L with a laundry bag full of cash during the 9:47 am robbery — until the cops put the kibosh on his plans and took him into custody.
