Some of the “parishioners” had four legs and their howls, yelps and chirps could be heard from blocks away as the annual blessing of the animals got underway at St. Peter St. Paul Our Lady of Pilar Church.
The courtyard of the house of worship, 234 Congress Street, was transformed into an outdoor altar as the benediction of friendly beasts paid tribute to St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
Brooklyn pet owners brought along their cherished dogs, cats, birds and other furry loved ones for spiritual rites.
