Email Alerts RSS FeedsMuch like Santa Claus himself, comic storyteller Mike Daisey is bringing Christmas cheer to Brooklyn for one night only, so you had better not pout and you’d better not cry. Here’s why:
“It will be a perverse but ultimately hopeful story of the holidays,” the Carroll Gardens resident said of “Christmas: Friend or Foe?,” his Dec. 15 show at the Central Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.
“I’ll be talking about the positives and negatives of Christmas and the mania of the season,” said Daisey. “I’m hosting my own holiday party the night before, so I’ll be keeping my ears tuned for anything.”
In his adult-themed show, Daisey plans to address the holiday plagues of bad gift giving — “The giving of gifts is an art form,” he said, “and there are people who are good and some who simply aren’t” — and the roving gangs of tree hawkers who line his neighborhood’s streets.
As for his own holiday wishes, the self-employed Daisey said, “The big present under the tree this year is dental insurance, which is a funny gift because you can’t wrap it in anything.”
“Christmas: Friend or Foe?” will take place at 7 pm on Dec. 15 at the Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture in the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Branch at Grand Army Plaza. Tickets are $10. For information, call (718) 230-2100 or visit www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org.
