Construction crews are working round-the-clock to open Henry Street’s Gristedes by the end of July.
The company — owned by would-be mayor John Catsimatides — would not comment officially, but one worker told The Brooklyn Paper that the store, which was gutted by an April 1 electrical fire, would definitely reopen within six weeks.
“The grocery section is taking us some time,” said the worker.”
Despite $5 million in damages, the store’s pharmacy reopened three days after the fire. Food and other staples are sold there.
But the loss of the store, however temporary, is a sore point — emphasis on sore — for locals.
“I hate dragging heavy stuff like a gallon of milk from Montague Street,” said Janner, a spokeswoman for the Brooklyn Heights Association.
