Built to thrill: The Siren Festival is back

On July 18, the ninth annual Siren Festival will once again transform the People’s Playground into the Rocker’s Rec Room.

Indie rock legends Built to Spill — an Idaho-based band acclaimed for its 1990s records “Perfect From Now On,” and “Keep It Like A Secret” — will headline the Village Voice-sponsored rock concert, which will take over West 10th Street next to the Cyclone.

Setting the stage will be the electro-infused Philadelphia rap group Spank Rock, whose progressive — and lewd — tunes have become critical favorites and nightclub bangers.

The show will also include sets by the Danish duo the Raveonettes, who have churned out low-fi gems since their 2003s debut, “Chain Gang of Love,” which features 13 catchy tracks all recorded in B-flat major.

Organizers predict that about 100,000 music lovers will make it to the all-day show, which will include Japandroids, Thee Oh Sees, and A Place to Bury Strangers.
