One month after taking up winter shelter in a DUMBO warehouse, the pint-sized version of Fort Greene’s outdoor market is expanding to a second building directly across from its temporary home at the corner of Washington and Front streets.
While the original space will still house antiques, the new space will accommodate the addition of 35 clothing, jewelry and craft vendors, guest DJ’s and designer showcases.
In addition, several local food vendors are slated to set up shop indoors, including Red Hook’s own Rafael Soler and his famed papusas.
Although originally unsure of how the immense popularity of the outdoor market would translate to an indoor space by the waterfront, organizer Eric Demby noted that the antiques market has been drawing more than 1,000 people each weekend — and he’s confident that adding another space will only increase the Flea’s success.
“There’s a certain feeling that comes from getting the band back together and creating a more complete mini-flea atmosphere,” Demby said. “Our feeling is that by adding the second market, we’ll make DUMBO even more of a destination for shoppers from both the neighborhood and around the city. Despite tough times, folks still love to Flea!”
The second flea market is set to open at 81 Front St. on Jan. 31, and will run Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm through March 29. Call (718) 935-1052 for info.
