Bodega be damned! Khim’s Market replaces Deli Mart on Bedford

Williamsburg’s busiest corner has a new tenant — an organic grocery store.

Khim’s Millenium Market will open its fifth store on Bedford Avenue and N. Seventh Street, replacing the beloved Deli Mart, which served its last cup of coffee to customers earlier this month.

B&R Electronics

The new store, which will open after the new year, will feature the same immaculate rows of produce, organic beauty products, vegan-friendly treats, and prepared foods that owner Charlie Khim has stocked in his stores since 1998.

The expansion of the Khim’s empire follows other upscale changes on Bedford Avenue, including a Duane Reade and HSBC bank branch.

Well, it's miles better than an Applebees or a Starbucks, but no one can replace the friendliness of the Deli Mart staff. They remembered you, and how you like your coffee, what you've been up to. It was a real neighborly vibe. I hope they do well wherever they go.

I won't shop at any Khim's market as their prices are offensively high. Between the chain of Khim's stores and Sunac they want to monopolize the grocery prices of Williamsburg.

There are alternatives; Fresh Direct has better prices, Topps is great for meat, and the green market is good community fun on the weekends. Even the basement grocery store of the new Duane Reade has got to be a better alternative.

At least there are the wonderful people at Brooklyn Kitchen and Meat Hook, which is where I purchase all of my meat. There is the farmer's market on Saturdays at McCarren, which is a great place to get produce. I know it's not as convenient as going to a supermarket,but I actually enjoy going to different places to do my shopping and spreading my money to all the locals. Besides, the quality is much better.
