Another sick call to ‘KILL JEWS’

The Brooklyn Paper

In a stunning display of intolerance, Sixth Avenue in Park Slope was littered with strips of papers reading “KILL JEWS” in capital letters from Fourth to Ninth streets last Wednesday.

Nearly two dozen of the strips were picked up by Karen Guilbert, who had just finished walking her daughter to school.

“It’s so ignorant and hateful,” said Guilbert, who picked up a handful of the same slips back in October. “There are hundreds of kids that walk up and down this street.”

Before she turned the slips over to the police, Guilbert played amateur detective by turning the strips over and piecing them together. All that emerged was that the slips had been cut from a document from a taxi driving school. Yet there were no addresses or phone numbers on the strips that offered any further clues.

“Someone is trying to be a taxi driver,” Guilbert nervously joked. “I sure hope I don’t end up in his car.”

An officer from the 78th Precinct said he turned the notes over to the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit, but the department had no official comment.

Most unsettling, this is not the first time the craven anti-Semitic litterer has struck.

A month before Guilbert’s Halloween discovery, the same notes turned up in Bay Ridge, Boerum Hill and Clinton Hill.

To top it off, vandals struck two synagogues in Brooklyn Heights in 2007 and left the same message on car windshields.

In response to this latest attack, a rainbow coalition of politicians and other leaders gathered at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope to condemn anti-Semitism.

Councilman Brad Lander (D–Park Slope) convened the gathering, which included Borough President Markowitz, Rep. Yvette Clarke (D–Park Slope), Councilman Steve Levin (D–Williamsburg) and Rabbi Andy Bachman.

Notably absent from the public stage was an officer or official from the NYPD. One cop was on hand in the back of the room, but he declined to comment.

Markowitz spoke most eloquently.

“Ninety-nine point nine nine nine nine-plus percent of us, we get along,” he said. “But among us there are a few mutants. I assure you this mutant will be apprehended.”

If you want peace, non-violence and a world fulled with compassion and respect -- instead of hatred and violence -- well frankly, you have to invest in and teach those very principles. They don't just happen. In aggregate, our government espouses the opposite, violence being the supreme form of conflict resolution and justice that trickles down into our neighborhoods.

Here's a different way forward:
http://www.livablestreets.com/projects/peacenyc/project-home

We also need to elect and support government and cultural leaders who espouse these principles, as put forth most eloquently by MLK, instead of accepting more of the same fear and hate mongering of political expediency.

I noticed a slip of paper in the leaves in Battery Park on October 4 that was identical to these. I took a picture of it and looked for others, but didn't find any. Just thought it was a sick little one-off... should have known better.

Seems weird, is it supposed to be a flyer?
I don't think that this is the work of a "sick" individual - it seems more like an art project, or a joke. I mean little papers saying something odd? Not scary.

Native Brooklynite from Central Brooklyn says:
Hey, Harry. Kill Jews "something odd?" How about having some recollection of the history you sat through in school - but obviously never learned - that hatred, left unchecked, most often leads to violence. Remember the Weimar Republic, and its fomenting of the fear of the other, the outsider, the Jew and the Gypsy. And if you don't remember the consequences of leaving hatred and hate speech unchecked, for once in your life read a book and understand its contents.

If someone were to say "kill Harry", would you call it odd, not scary? Would a dead Harry be just an "art project", a piece of non-moving performance art? A "joke" makes people laugh, and if you laughed at this one, then you have no sense of not only the history of the 20th century, but are equally ignorant of what is going on in the Tea Party movement and the hate-mongers on talk radio/TV.

Hatred and reactionary thought are prevalent at both ends of the political extreme. These "little papers" say "Kill Jews." Tomorrow it will be "Kill Gays", "Kill Muslims", "Kill Catholics", and then they may get around to you with little pieces of paper suggesting "Kill Harry."

Hate is hate, and should never be excused or explained away. Open your eyes.

@native -
You talk against hate and yet your comment is so angry and full of bile. Certainly not love and understanding.

Yes, you are right, I never learned in secondary school that there was any kind of significant hate or killing of Jews in Brooklyn at any point in history. Maybe you want to enlighten me on when some crazy putting tiny slips of paper in the park led to unchecked violence.

You have certainly opened my eyes, especially by personalizing it by saying "kill harry".

Honestly I would be surpised and think it was odd if someone took the time to write that on a bunch of tiny papers and then put them somewhere. I think odd would be exactly the word I'd use to describe it. I would not say hatefull or refer to the second world war as a way to totally blow out of proportion and exagerate what happened.

Woa Mike !... who said anything about emigrating let alone Arabs...and it's interesting that you know it is a "muslim taxi driver".

FYI : Maybe connected, maybe not...but last summer someone threw off the roof of 309 Washington Ave in Fort Green, hundreds of papers hand written saying something like, "I am going to kill myself." The cops were called and no one was found.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Since I was young enough to understand anything regarding the Jewish religion or history, my head would turn to the television and I was totally fixated. My parents and noone around me at that time, where either Jewish and had any connections. I was totally fascinated with the Holocaust and anything to do with the Jewish information available.

This may now sound stupid, but upon moving to London aged nineteen, I would not even talk to a German or travel with my friends through Germany, when we travelled throughout Europe.

Whilst working in the city, many times German travellers would join our table. I was never disrespectful or argued and natrually noticed. Eventually, I turned around and explained my views of the Jewish Holocaust and the time, I thought that it was too soon to be forgotten. I was aged twenty and the German group actually shook my hand and said they respected my opinion.

After living in London for twenty years and experiencing most walks of life, I have to say that it is very difficult to become accepted into a Jewish community.

For many years I worked in Golders Green as a software consultant and although I was professional and aged thirty, the community was extremely close and thought it was
unbelievale that I could not cook and had no children.

As you can imagine, the house was full of pictures of past Rabbis and history and when asking a genuine question regarding a portrayal, this could not be answered when a servant or husband was present

I appreciate that I am not Jewish and people do not want to talk about the Holocaust, but even at the age of nineteen, upon moving to London from a small village in the North West, I even wrote to the London Evening Standard to see how I could help. I then subscribed to the ANL. I sent donations of ten pounds per month and although I did not walk through London on walks, I continued to subscribe.

Although everyone is now aware of the Holocaust and Auswitch, I would now love to be able to gain a real insight to a real Jewish community and maybe view a Jewish friend by email.

George K Comney from Former Orthodox Catechumen says:
Ohlig & Puim, Hidden Origins of Islam shows name Muhammad first appears on coins in Syria as Islam was really monophysite Christianity rebelling from Greek oppression. Service book written by Chrysustolm, communist Syrian terrorist who sought to consumate the crimes his Seleucid forefathers were prevented from committing on Channukah, and wrote the hideous totalitarianism "Questioning is the subversion of faith" (Homily I on I Timothy I). Jews and Protestants don't eat anything when they fast, but Greeks eat seafood that is not Kosher, deliberately out of anti-Semitism. They refuse to use matzabread in communion host because of anti-Semitism. Hideous Good Thursday (beatitudes 4th tone, 13th antefone 2nd plagal 6th tone, 11th antefone 2nd plagal 6th tone; also Tuesday 3rd ode 2nd tone tropare) fired up the Black Hundreds to go out and kill Jews for their Judas fires. We must annihilate with thermonuclear bombs the Greek cities of Larissus, Cavallus and especially the perennial soviet spy base of Athus so the soviets will not be able to grab the straits from our staunch, secular Turkish allies. Greeks describe their ghettos as "homogeneity" colonies and themselves, even when they are born here and citizens, as "expatriates." In their services, they pray for the "Greek nation and American people" because they refuse to consider an inhomogeneous country a nation. And they have this evil saint, Cosmus Aitalius, who advocated ethnic cleansing. Do not fear nuclear bombs for their energy will bring the Glorious Rapture! Greeks stole the Egyptian, Trojan, Roman and Venetian empires to benefit their hideous decadent merchantilism. They invented capitalism along with perfidiously decadent sexual, "philosophical", and commercial mores. Greeks are not courageous enough to fight, but prefer commerce, witch alchemy "science" and literature as instruments of domination. Greeks invented globalization three thousand years ago. Trojan Horse betrays how perfideously Greeks fight. During Depression, Casavis betrayed how masons are beholden to the Greeks. This is why the thirty second degree emblem of Scots rite is byzantine two headed eagle. Greeks have always been behind Satan's religion of Secular Humanism. Gorbachev bears the mark of the antiChrist on his forehead, is a member of the Greek politburo, Archons of Constantinople, secret controllers of the Federal Reserve (from their Delian League), using boards like Brademas, Hatsopoulos, Patrikis, and Jamie Dimon. Russia was always controlled by Greeks, originally for the wheat, and the first Russian governor of Alaska was a Greek named Delaros. Jefferson and Franklin were controlled in writing our Constitution by a guy straight from Greece named Paradise at the same time as Russia had a Greek foreign minister, who had lured the greatest scientists of Europe to work in Russia. A Greek named Peter Peterson replaced David Rockefeller at the helm of the Council on Foreign Relations. The CIA has long been controlled by Greeks like Tenet and Negroponte. Arab countries are controlled by the Greeks who ship their oil. American slave trade was controlled by a Greek family named Benakis. Greek diners are oil ship money laundries. Diner boys do so well in those filthy colleges, because colleges are Greek instruments of world domination established by the guy named Paradise who controlled Jefferson and Franklin. This is why colleges all look like Greek temples and have those depraved Greek fraternities. The devil General Grant admitted to being a Byzantine emperor. The Greek devil Papnichlau invented the sex "liberating" pap smear. The USA movie industry was invented by Spyros Scouras, friend of Stalin. Greek devils carelessly caused Atlantis to disappear when they arrived on earth. Turks are just Trojans avenging millenia of occupation. We must liberate humanity from three millenia of Greek domination.
