The tennis bubble atop a Boerum Hill gym collapsed overnight on Wednesday, a victim of Snowpocalypse III, which dumped 13 more inches of the white stuff on an already powdery borough.
No one was injured in the collapse at the New York Sports Club on Boerum Place near Dean Street, and workers shoveled off the excess snow in hopes of quickly reinflating the bubble, but it won’t be restored until after the weekend, an employee said.
The latest storm made this the sixth-snowiest winter in city history, and the snowiest January on record, according to the National Weather Service.
It coincided with the one-month anniversary of the Blizzard of 2010, the seminal Snowpocalypse that dumped two feet of snow on Brooklyn, and led to a Sanitation Department shakeup after the city was slow to plow the mess.
It’s not the first time this season that heavy snowfall collapsed a tennis bubble. During the original blizzard, the big protective dome over the courts in the Parade Grounds in Kensington also lost its loftiness, though it was also quickly repaired.
