A trio of teenagers were arrested after allegedly causing chaos at McCarren Park Pool on Sunday afternoon.
The pool was packed to maximum capacity late Sunday afternoon when the three young men started jumping into the pool over and over again, frightening other swimmers, and committing the cardinal pool-side sin, running near the pool, police said.
“They were acting in a dangerous manner and causing alarm to the other people in the pool,” said NYPD officer Sophia Tassy-Mason. “The way they were running around the pool, they could have hurt someone.”
Pool security told the teens to leave, but they instead started running around the pool and shoving pool patrons as they dodged authorities according to police.
When the cops showed up, the teens ran from them too, and allegedly tried to shimmy away when they were captured.
Police charged Jose Carrero, 17, with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. They charged Guillermo Coronador, 18, with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. Jevone McIlwain, 19, is facing charges of assault for hitting a cop, as well as disorderly conduct.
These were the first arrests since the pool opened for the season on June 27. So far this year, the pool has been much calmer than last year, when there were several arrests in the first week that the pool was open and the city repeatedly shut it down.
