Authorities pulled the dead bodies of two women from Williamsburg waters within a few hours of each other on Wednesday morning.
Police say they got word of the first woman in the East River near N. Fifth Street at around 7:45 am, and arrived to find the naked body of 50-year-old Williamsburger Haydee Rivera face down in the water.
The medical examiner has not determined the cause of death, but a police spokeswoman said there was no apparent trauma to the body.
Then around 10 am, cops discovered the body of a missing Queens woman in the Newtown Creek.
Police found 69-year-old Elba Santiago floating near Metropolitan Avenue and Grand Street, a day after her family reported her missing from home.
Santiago appears to have committed suicide, said a police spokesperson, though there is no official cause of death yet.
If someone you know exhibits warning signs of suicide, do not leave the person alone; remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs, or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt; call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273–8255; and take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
