Crest Hardware’s Joe Franquinha has outdone himself this year, meticulously curating his store’s second annual Crest Fest 2009 Outdoor Art Show this past Saturday.
Volunteers and the hardware store staff have been working for the past six months to solicit work from more than 200 neighborhood artists and organize pieces so they would blend perfectly with the store’s workmanlike aesthetic.
“What’s cool about a show like this is there’s a really fun community aspect to it. Some people just make pieces for this show,” said Franquinha.
The popularity of the exhibit has led some neighborhood residents to declare Franquinha the “Mayor of Williamsburg.” Is a run for Brooklyn borough president his next move?
“Is there an age limit?” asked Alison Forbes, a volunteer whose vending machines were on display in the front of the store. “When he turns 30, he should run.”
