“Why don’t you come by and sit awhile?”
A simple invitation like that one had a lasting impact on 62nd Street between 19th and 20th avenues recently as residents opened their street – as well as their hearts – to an all-day summertime celebration.
Saturday’s block party boasted a relaxed atmosphere, but for all the right reasons.
While kids cooled off under a sprinkler and spent the day burning bicycle tire rubber as they chased each other up and down the street, older residents sat back, basking in the sun and the company of their neighbors.
It was also a generational affair as grandparents explained to their grandkids just how a proper block party is hosted.
