A pair of cops were honored by the 78th Precinct Community Council this week for two separate arrests, which took three alleged bad guys — and two guns — off the street.
Sgt. Mary Ann Nellen was named “Cop of the Month” for her Sept. 23 arrest of a man alleged to have robbed a taxi cab at gunpoint. Nellen was on routine patrol in Prospect Park when she noticed the suspect running, according to Deputy Inspector John Argenziano, the commanding officer of the 78th Precinct. Without incident, she arrested the man and recovered a .32 Colt handgun. The suspect is alleged to have also committed another robbery in Sunset Park’s 72nd Precinct, Argenziano said at the council’s Sept. 29 meeting. “This was definitely a good collar,” he continued. “She closed out two cases in a safe manner, and without injury.”
Officer Christopher Dietz was also named “Cop of the Month” for arresting two men alleged to have robbed another man at gunpoint. The victim pointed Dietz in the right direction, and the young cop took it from there, arresting both suspects and getting a positive identification from the victim, Argenziano said. A search of the perpetrators turned up the stolen property, along with a “black firearm,” Argenziano said.
For their efforts, Dietz and Nellen received plaques inscribed with their names, along with hearty applause from the large crowd gathered inside the station house, 65 Sixth Avenue.
