Man cuffed after front yard scuffle

A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal mail and attacked a man on Jan. 9.

Cops said the perp allegedly went through the front fence of a Bergen Street home just before 12 p.m., broke the mailbox, and took all the mail inside — including a check for more than $1,000. A resident of the home confronted the perp, who picked up a metal spike from the ground, threatened the owner, and fled the scene. Officers arrived and quickly found the man, who they arrested after a short foot chase. The mail was successfully returned, police said.

Sneak steals parked e-bike

Some sneak stole a man’s e-bike from Court Street on Jan. 10.

The victim told police he parked his $1,600 e-bike outside a restaurant near the corner of Pacific Street at about 7:30 p.m. Just two minutes later, the bike was gone. Officers searched the area for the perp without success, and the victim said an AirTag attached to the bike had last pinged near Columbus Circle in Manhattan.

Man charged again after alleged jail attack

A man being held in jail was charged after allegedly attacking his cell mate on Jan. 11.

The two men were in the same cell in the criminal court building at 120 Schermerhorn St., which was being monitored by a camera, police said. The pair began arguing, and the alleged assailant, a 36-year-old man, allegedly punched the other man in the face and put him in a chokehold. An officer separated the men — neither of whom were seriously injured, and both rejected medical attention — and the attacker was charged with assault.

Opportunistic thief targets unlocked car

Someone broke into a parked car and stole several items on Jan. 9.

Cops said the victim parked his car inside a Bridge Street parking garage at about 5 a.m. and left it unlocked. When he returned two hours later, someone had entered the car and grabbed his drivers license, along with his credit and debit cards. No purchases had been made on the cards, police said, and the thief disappeared without a trace.
