Air conditioner con man caught red-handed
A young man was arrested for trying to steal an air conditioner out of an apartment window on June 12.
A witness told police he was watching the Duffield Street home on a closed-circuit TV when he saw the man enter and start trying to remove the unit “by various means.” He called the cops, who found the same man skulking at the rear of the building and cuffed him for burglary.
The unit was saved.
Two injured in late-night bar fight
A late-night bar fight turned violent on June 14.
According to police, a man attempted to break up a skirmish at Kimono Rooftop Lounge on Duffield Street at around 2 a.m.
As the would-be peacemaker tried to pull apart the fighters, one swung at him with a hookah pipe and smacked him on the top of the head, knocking him out. The same assailant is believed to have hit a young woman at the club with a hookah, leaving her with a laceration to the face.
The perp fled the scene and has yet to be found. Neither victim was seriously injured, though the woman had her laceration treated at NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue.
Subway assailant arrested
Police arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a fellow straphanger at the Court Street station on a June 9.
Police said the victim, a 78-year-old man, was riding a Manhattan-bound R train when it stopped at Court Street and another man boarded. That man allegedly shoved the victim to the ground, leaving him with injuries to the head and neck.
Cops quickly arrived on the scene arrested the alleged attacker for assault.
Grocery store sushi heist thwarted
An ambitious thief was arrested after attempting to steal some food and alcohol from a Myrtle Avenue deli on June 14.
Cops said the perp, a 43-year-old man, walked into the NYC Fresh Supermarket around 11 a.m. and grabbed some sushi, storage boxes, and beer — then tried to leave the store without paying.
He was confronted by a security guard, and the two fought. Eventually, cops arrived on the scene to arrest the thief and return the property to the store owner. The security guard was left with scratches to the head from the struggle.
