Teens arrested after allegedly stealing straphanger’s bag
A group of four teens were arrested on Sept. 4 after they allegedly snatched a woman’s bag on the subway.
According to police, the victim, an 18-year-old woman, was watching videos on her phone as she rode the Manhattan-bound F train from Fort Hamilton Parkway. The teens boarded the train at Smith-9th Streets at 9:30 p.m., and one asked to borrow the victim’s vape, which she agreed to. But the perp would not give the vape back, cops said, and when the train pulled into the Jay Street-MetroTech station, the teens grabbed the victim’s bag and ran out of the train.
She followed them, and found her bag abandoned on upper level — without her wallet, which had been inside. Police quickly found the suspects at the corner of Jay and Fulton streets, and cuffed all four for robbery.
Angry passenger attacks subway conductor
An angry passenger attacked a subway conductor inside the Borough Hall station on Sept. 5.
The victim told police that the perp, standing on the platform outside the train asked her for directions at about 12:30 p.m., but was unsatisfied by her response. He then entered the train and kicked the door to the conductor’s car, striking the conductor in the back, and walked into another car on the same train. The conductor contacted her supervisor, who called the police.
Officers and EMS met the conductor at the next stop to assist her, but were unable to locate the perp.
Karma is swift for alleged phone thief
Karma was swift for one alleged phone-snatcher on Sept. 3.
Cops said the victim was waiting for a bus near the corner of Bond and Livingston streets just after midnight when the thief yanked his iPhone 14 Pro from his hands and ran off. The victim quickly flagged down a nearby officer, who saw the thief holding the stolen phone and throwing it to the ground, damaging the screen. The officer moved in quickly to arrest the suspect and retrieve the stolen phone.
Woman attacked after waiting room dispute
A woman was attacked by two strangers after she had a verbal disagreement with one of them on Sept. 5.
The victim got into a minor spat with the perp inside the Human Resources Administration benefits office at 275 Bergen St. at about 9 a.m., police said, but the argument was not serious, and the perp left soon after.
But, hours later, when the victim exited the building, the perp was waiting outside. Police said she threw food at the victim, then punched her and cut her with a sharp object as another perp held the victim down. When she got away, the victim headed to the NYU Langone emergency room in Cobble Hill, where she contacted police. The woman’s injures were not severe, police said, and she was treated and released.
