Burglars steal pricey equipment from construction site
Burglars snuck onto a Fulton Street construction site and stole more than $12,000 worth of equipment on April 12.
The victim told police that the perps entered the site around 5:45 p.m. and moved quickly to grab a laser leveler, a grinder, a saw, a cordless construction light and batteries. The thieves had slipped back out of the site by 5:50 p.m. Nearby security cameras captured footage of the incident, but the burglars have not yet been identified.
Credit card swiped from mail
A local man waiting for his new credit card to arrive in the mail was still waiting on April 14 — even as someone else started using it elsewhere.
Cops said the man was notified that his card was being used at the Apple Store on Flatbush Avenue late that night — even though the card was still marked as “in transit” on his tracker. The thief, who intercepted the card at an unknown location and helped themselves, spent nearly $600 at the tech store. Police had not yet identified the thief, but were investigating the incident as identity theft.
Sneak steals phone during night out
A sneaky thief stole an expensive iPhone at a bar in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on April 20.
According to police, the victim set his iPhone 16 Pro Max down on the bar at Brooklyn Storehouse at 1 a.m. while he ordered drinks. Minutes later, he realized the phone was gone.
The $1,500 smartphone was still missing as of April 23, and cops had obtained camera footage from the bar to try to identify the perp.
Parked car damaged in attempted theft
Someone shattered the rear window and damaged the steering wheel of a 2011 Hyundai Elantra during an attempted theft on April 17.
The victim told police she parked the car near the corner of North Portland and Park avenues on April 16. At around 5:30 p.m. the following day, she realized someone had tried — and failed — to steal the car, but left it covered in shattered glass. Though neither the car or any of its contents were stolen, the victim said it would cost at least $250 to repair the damage.
Gang of robbers shake down commuter
A gang of robbers shook down a Fort Greene resident on his commute home on April 19.
Police said the victim had been shopping on Third Avenue in Sunset Park and was walking toward the C train at about 9 p.m. when a group of five people dressed in dark clothes and masks approached him from behind. One, who appeared to be holding a gun beneath his undershirt, ordered the man to give up all his belongings, while the others reached into his pockets and took his iPhone 15, wallet, credit card, and ID cards.
The perps fled the scene and the victim, rattled, headed home before he called police to report the incident.
