Alleged car thief arrested after traffic stop
An alleged car thief was arrested days after the vehicle went missing from a Clinton Hill street.
The victim told police he parked his 2012 Kia Sorrento on Classon Avenue near Quincy Street on the evening of Nov. 26. The following morning, the car was missing, and cops uncovered surveillance footage that showed an unknown person entering the car and driving off. License plate recognition dinged the car in a nearby neighborhood on Nov. 28, and police searched the area and pulled over a man who was driving the stolen car in Bed-Stuy. The car was returned, and the alleged thief was arrested for grand larceny auto.
Teen attacked, robbed while walking home
A teen girl was attacked and robbed while she walked home from school on the afternoon of Nov. 25.
The victim told police a pair of perps approached her near the corner of Navy Street and Park Avenue at around 3 p.m. and snatched the necklace from her neck. When the girl tried to grab one of the perps, they told her to “Stop grabbing me before I stab you.” The perps fled, and the girl was unharmed and helped police in their search for the thieves.
Bookstore bandit
Someone threatened a bookstore cashier and stole cash during a speedy robbery on Nov. 28.
According to police, the perp walked into Greenlight Bookstore at 686 Fulton Street just after 5 p.m., walked up to the cashier and placed five singles on the counter, asking to swap them for a $5. As the employee opened the register, the perp walked around the counter, threatened the employee with a knife, and pulled $150 in cash from the register. The perp then fled the store, leaving the employee uninjured.
Bodega employee attacks customer
A bodega employee allegedly arrested a customer after a disagreement on Nov. 24.
Cops said the victim was in a shop on DeKalb Avenue near St. Felix Street just before 7 p.m. when an employee told him to leave, saying he did not want to sell the customer cigarettes. The employee allegedly followed the victim out of the store and threw hot water on him after the victim protested that they were in a public space.
Police swiftly arrested the employee for assault.
Gunshots shatter windows at NYCHA building
Gunfire shattered windows at Walt Whitman Houses on Nov. 25.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation near the corner of North Portland and Myrtle avenues at 8:50 a.m. and discovered 31 shell casings scattered on the ground. As they searched the area, officers met a woman who said the gunshots shattered one of her bedroom windows and a window in the lobby of the building. No one was injured, police said, and they did not find the person who fired the bullets.
