The tragedies of September 11 will be remembered
and memorialized through modern dance for four nights in DUMBO’s
Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park.
The eight-year-old, Park Slope-based Silver-Brown Dance Company
(SBD) has created "Oasis 3" to commemorate the terrorist
attacks. The company will perform in the park against the Manhattan
skyline.
"Oasis 3" was choreographed for "the community
to come together to remember, to reflect, to mourn, and to heal,"
said SBD Artistic Director Eva Silverstein, who is from Brooklyn
Heights. "I believe the arts have the power to heal."
Silverstein said her work with firefighters, widows and community
members, and research at Ground Zero informed the dance. The
event is expected to draw those affected by the tragedies, and
especially families and friends to honor their lost loved ones
and support each other.
"My hope is that ’Oasis 3’ will touch people with both sadness
and joy," said Silverstein. "The personal sadness we
all feel is so deep and still so fresh, and yet, I feel it is
also important to celebrate the lives of those who were taken
from us and the heroism, the bravery, our universal humanity."
"Oasis 3" will be performed in the Cove at Empire-Fulton
Ferry State Park (entrance at Water and New Dock streets in DUMBO)
at 7 pm on Sept. 8, 9 and 11 and at 5 pm on Sept. 10. All performances
are free. For more information, visit the Web site www.brooklynbridgepark.org
