Just six months after The Brooklyn Paper’s Web site went live with a major redesign, it has been named one of the best in the country by the Suburban Newspapers of America, an industry trade group.
The announcement was made on the eve of the Editor & Publisher Interactive Media conference in Miami, Florida, where SNA was an active sponsor.
While BrooklynPaper.com didn’t win the top prize in its highly competitive category — non-daily newspapers with circulations above 65,000 — the site received honorable mention (the equivalent of third place) from the judges of the “Best Local Community Web site” award.
The judges, representing the prestigious American Press Institute, stated: “This paper and Web site, covering a section of one of the biggest cities of the world, does a fine job of providing local news for the residents of the area.”
The first-place site, plymouth.wickedlocal.com, is owned by Gatehouse Media, publisher of 76 daily newspapers and 260 weeklies in 17 states.
The BrooklynPaper.com award is a tribute to the hard work of The Brooklyn Paper Web Designer Sylvan Migdal, Art Director Leah Mitch and Senior Editor and Production Manager Vince DiMiceli.
