In the interest of promoting active healthy lifestyles for mature adults, 55 and above, Millennium Development has created an Outdoor Marine Park Active Adults Program (MPAA), open to all seniors, near the tennis courts in Marine Park, Fillmore Avenue & Stuart Street.
The program will be continuing through the summer months, but it will be held outdoors only. The program usually operates at the Salt Marsh Nature Center, 3302 Avenue U, but will be closed to the MPAA, due to a Junior Rangers Summer camp operating on the premises.
“It is exciting to host our program outdoors,” said Joseph Bernardo, director of MPAA. “Our active adults are looking forward to having fun anywhere, especially at the park. It goes to show that our active adults are not afraid to enjoy themselves wherever they may be.”
The area near the tennis courts was chosen because it provides an ample amount of shade provided by the majestic trees of Marine Park. The program will maintain its regular curriculum, including a Monday stretch band exercise class, Thai Chi Kung and line dancing. The fitness walking program, held year-round, will continue in the park as well.
The MPAA will also hold exercise sessions every Wednesday before the concert series held at the park during the summer.
