They are hot for hot rods!
Car enthusiasts from across the borough and country raced to Coney Island for the “Cruise to the End of the Line” car show on Sept. 24. The third-annual auto show featured more than 100 unique rides including restored classics and original creations. But the fest went beyond roadsters and lead sleds to celebrate car lovers’ creativity, said one attendee.
“A lot of it is about the art and showing what you can do,” said Sheepshead Bay native Tom Zomerfeld. “Each person puts their own individuality into their car, so each car comes with a bit of the owners personality, and it’s a great way to see that.”
Zomerfeld showcased a tricked-out, sea-foam green, 1960 Buick that he converted from a four-door station wagon to a two-door with a truck bed. Plenty of stylish hot rods bearing classic flames and rockabilly paint jobs lined up by the Boardwalk alongside gas-guzzling clunkers and even a few motorcycles.
The show doubled as a 20th-anniversary celebration for the hosts, the Rumblers Car Club, which also puts on elaborate custom vintage car festivals in Williamsburg every year.
