America still not ready

To The Editor:

Stanley Gershbein, after reading your column (“It’s Only My Opinion”) in the 8-22 issue, I simply had a good laugh.

You claim that “both candidates are tied at 44 percent each” and wonder why Senator Obama had not made meaningful strives.

Stan, I am truly surprised at you. You ask is Obama not advancing. The answer is clear – because he is black.

For example, if Senator Obama were white, Senator McCain would be dead in the water. I could go on and on, but in the end it’s only my opinion

Incidentally, I will be voting Obama.

Stanley Gershbein responds:

I agree with you that there are many whites who will not vote for him because of his skin color. On the other hand there are many blacks who will now register to vote for him because he is black. Which number is greater? We will never really know – even with the exit polls.

It’s only my opinion, but I believe that our good friend, Hillary, played the race card regularly. Right from the start, in every one of her speeches, she repeatedly told us how lucky we were to have an opportunity to elect the first woman, or the first African American to the White House – like we didn’t know. Was that constant reminder really necessary? It was if you wanted to spread a subliminal message.

Incidentally, I will not be voting for Obama and it has nothing to do with his race. Thanks for writing.
