She missed it when it was gone!
Movie star Anna Kendrick celebrated the return of Mark Morris Dance Group’s famed take on “The Nutcracker” to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the first time in five years on Dec. 16.
The star of “Pitch Perfect,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” and the forthcoming “Pitch Perfect 3” joined dozens of Brooklyn culture vultures at the Fort Greene arts institution to catch “The Hard Nut” — an irreverent disco-era spin on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s timeless story and Tchaikovsky’s classic score — then hob-nob at an after-party cheering its revival.
The local modern dance company first performed the show in 1991 at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and then brought it to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for Christmas in 1992, and again the following year.
The company reprised the show on the Lafayette Avenue stage in 2002 — a year after it moved its headquarters across the street — and again in 2010. But for the past five years, the American Ballet Theatre has performed a more traditional “Nutcracker” there.
“The Hard Nut” wrapped this year’s run on Sunday night.
