Annual Lena Cymbrowitz health fair

Hundreds of local residents learned about the merits of having and maintaining good health, all in an enjoyable atmosphere, during the Fifth Annual Lena Cymbrowitz Health Fair.

Sponsored by Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, in conjunction with Maimonides Medical Center, Health Plus, Beth Israel’s Kings Highway Division, Courier-Life Publications, Health Plus and Kiwanis International, the health fair stretched along Emmons Avenue from Sheesphead Bay Road to Ocean Avenue.

In addition to providing free health screenings and stay healthy information, fair attendees where treated to live performances from Supervisors of Soul (S.O.S.) — playing music of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s — and PS 195, PS 255 and Bay Academy.

A caricaturist, face painters, jugglers and clowns also entertained the crowd. “I am glad that there was such a large turnout, even more than last year’s. It was good to see our community come together to both enjoy the fair and receive important information — from health screenings and printed materials — that could be lifesaving,” Cymbrowitz stated. In addition to the nearly 50 tables of health screenings and information, NYU’s Smiling Faces dental van provided screenings and an ambulance crew showed attendees their advanced lifesaving equipment and other gear.
