Another big win for the Clones

Cyclones 8
Ironbirds 2

Thursday, June 25, at Aberdeen

Great pitching and big hitting has been the formula this series, so no wonder the Cyclones are 5–1.

Opening a three-game set with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, Cyclone starter Collin McHugh (2–0, 1.64 ERA) gave up just three hits and struck out six in six shutout innings.

The Cyclone barrage began in the fourth, with a run scoring on Nicholas Giarraputo’s SAC fly.

In the next inning, Luis Rivera led off with a double and later scored on Doc Doyle’s single.

The Cyclones put it out of reach in the sixth, with three runs, thanks to a Matt Bouchard triple, a Sam Honeck RBI single, a Luis Rivera RBI single and then a Nicholas Santomauro RBI triple.

In the Cyclone eighth, three more runs came in, though most of the blame lied with Aberdeen pitching (a walk, two wild pitches and a hit batter don’t help). With the bases loaded, Santomauro singled in two.

On the night, Bouchard (who is batting .440) was 3-for-5, and Santomauro had three RBIs.
