Call it liquid inspiration.
German band the New York Spitzbuam provided some traditional tunes for Aviator Sports and Events Center’s Oktoberfest on Oct. 9, but the six-piece would not have sounded half as good if it weren’t for all the Teutonic tonic on tap, said accordion player Fred Huber.
“When we play, we have to add beer, otherwise it doesn’t work,” he said. “I had a good sampling.”
The group played all your German grandmother’s favorite genres, and even got a few people up and dancing — though many were too busy enjoying all the spaetzel and Spaten to cut a rug, said Huber.
“A little American, polka, waltzes — all Oktoberfest tunes,” he said of the song selection. “A little bit of dancing — mostly people had food and beverages and sit down and enjoy and listen.”
The party — attended by dozens of stein-hoisting Deutschephiles — offered acht different biers on tap, and in true beer-fest tradition, everyone was sure to sample all eight suds before settling on a favorite, said bar tender Danielle Santos, whose beer of choice was a Yuengling Oktoberfest.
“Everyone tried all the beers that were on tap and found their own beer they liked,” she said. “It was really good.”
