Brooklyn’s home-grown ice gladiators %u2013 the New York Aviators %u2013 obliterated the competition, 11-0, during their opening game of the Northeast Professional Hockey League at Aviator Sports and Events Center, setting the stage for a rink showdown with fellow minor league teams.
The newest franchise in professional minor league hockey triumphed over the Rhode Island Storm in Hangar 5 at Floyd Bennett Field, explosively launching the regular season and boosted by their win of the day before when they trounced the Storm, 11-1.
Fans enjoyed a post-game party at the Winnie Mae Grill with deejay music.
The local season concludes on March 21, 2010 with two playoff rounds to follow. The New England Pharaohs and the Twin City Yeti will be among the league competitors, and the Aviators’ last home game will be on February 28, 2010.
