The Brooklyn Aviators ran roughshod over the Danville Dashers on Saturday, earning an easy 8–3 victory in Illinois.
The triumph marks Brooklyn’s third victory against Danville, the lowest ranked team in the Federal Hockey League.
Danville stunned everyone by netting a point in the first minute of play, but Brooklyn quickly fired off two goals of their own with Aviators’ star forward Jesse Felten scoring halfway through the set — the first of three goals he would shoot past Dasher netminder Breton Lindoff at the David S. Palmer Arena.
The Aviators’ clear dominance over the ice led to some first period fisticuffs: Dasher Ryan Stern was boxed for cross checking, setting off a chain of events that ended with Aviators’ center Lucas Schott and left winger Steve Koich shedding gloves and taking on Danville’s Lee McClure.
Danville earned two more points in the second period, but Brooklyn remained several steps ahead by scoring three big goals and setting the stage for the A’s third period rout, where the team scored three unanswered points — including the final piece of Felten’s hat trick.
The Brooklyn Aviators will return to the Aviator Sports and Events Center [3159 Flatbush Ave. in Floyd Bennett Field in Marine Park, (718) 758-7580] on March 2 to battle the Danbury Whalers. Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors and children under 14) For more info, visit www.BrooklynAviators.com.
