Back by popular demand is a program on how to improve balance and prevent falls at Beth Israel Medical Center-Kings Highway Division. A demonstration and balance evaluation, October 28 from 6:30-8 p.m., will be held at 3201 Kings Highway in the First Floor Conference Room.
“Whether getting up from bed or a chair, or tripping on a rug or an uneven pavement, or becoming unexpectedly weak in the knees, a fall can trigger a serious of events that can have serious consequences to one’s health and independence,” said program organizer Mary Pickering, LMSW, Geriatric Support and Outreach Services coordinator.
“The aging process can have a negative effect on balance, but falling is not an inevitable part of aging,” says Mike Mattia, PT, DPT, MS, Director of Physical Therapy at Beth Israel-Kings Highway Division.
Mattia will demonstrate simple ways to check a person’s balance and show some exercises and discuss common-sense strategies that can help maintain balance and prevent falling.
The program is free and space is limited. Advance registration is required and being accepted until October 27. To register, call 718-951-3065. Light Kosher refreshments will be served.
