Baby survives!
A woman was arrested for tossing her hours-old baby down a trash shoot inside the Whitman Houses on May 22.
The baby survived the eight-story plunge inside the building on Cumberland Walk near Carlton Avenue, and was rescued by a Housing Authority employee who heard the tot’s muffled cries inside the trash compactor at 9:30 am.
The baby, a boy, still had his umbilical cord attached — and doctors at Brooklyn Hospital estimated that he was between 12 and 15 hours old.
The mother, Laquasia Wright, is facing attempted homicide charges.
Strangler nabbed
A man attacked a woman on Grand Avenue on May 18, but was quickly collared.
The victim told cops that she was leaving her building between Park and Myrtle avenues at 9:30 pm when the man began punching and choking her.
A suspect was arrested later that night.
Heavy artillery
A woman hit a victim near Fort Greene Park with what the victim said felt like a padlock wrapped in a sock on May 4.
The victim was going home at 5:45 pm when she came upon a group of girls involved in a melee. In the ensuing confusion, the victim was struck by the heavy item, causing pain and swelling.
Blackburied
Two thieves stole a man’s Blackberry on May 17 on Greene Avenue while two witnesses did nothing.
The victim was near Cumberland Street at 3 pm when two men approached and demanded his Blackberry. He refused and handed the phone to a friend before the posse began to beat him up, knocking him to the ground, kicking him in the head and breaking his glasses.
At some point, the pummeling ended when the victim told his friend to hand over the phone.
Hanson mugging
Two thieves assaulted a man and stole his wallet and phone outside a subway station on Lafayette Avenue on May 18.
The victim left the C train station near S. Portland Avenue at 5:40 pm when two men approached him. One punched him in the face, told him to keep quiet and then grabbed his wallet. The other thief swiped the man’s phone.
Easy steal
A thief stole more than $2,700 worth of property from a car on Steuben Street on May 19.
The victim told cops that he parked between Park and Myrtle avenues in the morning and returned to the spot at 7:30 pm to find that that his Macbook, backpack, money and other equipment were missing.
The car had been unlocked.
Grocery grab
A thief stole a woman’s purse in front of a grocery store on Classon and Lafayette avenues on May 21.
The victim was outside the store smoking a cigarette at 3:30 pm when a man came up from behind, grabbed the purse and fled.
Vanishing act
A thief stole a woman’s wallet on the B41 bus near Atlantic Terminal on May 18.
The victim was on the bus at 11 am and exited to board a Long Island Rail Road train in the bollard-surrounded terminal at Flatbush Avenue. When she looked for her wallet to pay for her train ticket, she discovered that her wallet was missing.
She did not remember being jostled on the bus — but that’s how good these pickpockets are.
