Brooklyn Arts
Council celebrated 40 years of supporting the borough’s artists,
arts organizations and community groups with its "Alive
With Art" cocktail party at the Marriott in Downtown Brooklyn
on Nov. 15.
Among the VIPs who mixed and mingled and enjoyed a performance
by LAVA (pictured) – Sarah East Johnson’s athletic dance troupe
– were Academy Award winning-actor F. Murray Abraham and "Full
Frontal Fashion" Senior Correspondent Judy Licht.
Licht, a Flatbush native who is married to advertising mogul-restaurateur
Jerry Della Femina, and Abraham, who has taught theater at Brooklyn
College for many years, were honored by BAC for their long-standing
contributions to the borough’s arts and cultural sector. Additional
honorees included Peter Aschkenasy of Concert Foods and Erminia
and Gilbert Rivera of Park Avenue Building and Roofing Supplies.
" ’Alive with Art’ was our most successful fundraiser to
date," BAC Communications Manager Sara DeRose told GO Brooklyn
about the event, which attacted 250 attendees including former
mayor Ed Koch.
In addition to distributing funds to local artists and arts organizations
through its grassroots Community Arts Regrant Program, BAC produces
a film festival and stages art exhibitions in its DUMBO gallery
at 55 Washington St. at Front Street. For more information about
