Bad workers

Two suspects posing as maintenance workers attempted to rob a 70th Street house on March 27.

The 85-year-old victim told cops that she was at home with her husband at around 1 pm when the men, dressed in plain white uniforms, knocked on the door.

“I need to check your water because there was a main break on 12th Avenue,” said the first suspect.

While one of the perps led the couple into the bathroom to check the water, the other suspect sneaked up from the basement into the bedroom and took money out of drawer.

But the woman spotted him and yelled out, “Hey!” sending the thief and his accomplice out the door with $2,000.

Double trouble

Thieves broke into two homes on the same block last week, cops said.

In the first case, on March 24, the 44-year-old 73rd Street resident told cops that he left the house, which is between 11th and 12th avenues, at around 12:30 am.

When he returned 14 hours later, he noticed that $2,000 in cash and jewelry had been taken.

Four days later, a thief entered another home on the block and stole $800.

More burgs

Two other homes were burglarized last week.

On March 27, a suspect forced open the door of a 12th Avenue home, taking laptops and cameras from the 54-year-old and 78-year-old who live in the apartment, which is between 69th and 70th streets.

Two days later, a thief broke into an apartment in an apartment building on Ridge Boulevard between 93rd and 94th streets. The 30-year-old victim told cops that when she returned home around 7 pm to find her laptop and credit and debit cards missing.

Mean street

Three men robbed a woman in broad daylight on Fourth Avenue on March 29.

The 58-year-old victim had just withdrawn $300 from the ATM at a pizzeria on the corner of 92nd Street.

While she was still counting her money, the suspects approached, grabbed the cash and ran in different directions.
