Toot those flutes for the new music teacher and director of the band at Bishop Kearney High School, Anastasia Rege.
This Music Woman has new and exciting ideas in store for the students come September. She plans on implementing a cappella group “The Tiger Tones” and revamping the marching band repertoire to incorporate modern musical arrangements. As a drummer, she plans to beef up the drumline and work on some fun beats and showy numbers with the “heartbeat of the band.”
“I am very excited to be joining Bishop Kearney as a member of the Fine Arts Department not only as a music teacher but also as the band director,” she said.
Anastasia received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from CUNY Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn.
Standing O says, “Welcome and good tunes.”

See you in September
It’s that time of year again when parents are gearing up for that first day of school and the good guys at Kings Plaza Shopping Center have provided some much-needed assistance. On Aug. 8 the mega mall provided 2,000 backpacks filled to the gill with pencils, books, and other necessary items to some kids and local pols, who will distribute the scholar satchels to need-based children in their constituency.
Those on the receiving line included Public Advocate Tish James; Borough President Adams; state Sen. Jesse Hamilton, Roxanne Persaud, and Kevin Parker; Council members Chaim Deutsch, Alan Maisel, and Jumaane Williams; and Assembly members Jaime Williams, Pamela Harris, and Dov Hikind.
Starting the school year off right helps minimize academic stress, lessen anxieties, and empowers youth with a strong sense of self-worth.

Congratulations to the Union Baptist Church for being the recipient of the New York Landmarks Conservancy grant totaling $25,000. The grant is awarded to historic religious properties, and the money will assist with reconstruction of the brick masonry and roof replacement.
“These grants mark the 30-year milestone of our Sacred Sites Program and demonstrate, once again, that maintaining landmark religious buildings preserves our history and benefits the wider community,” said Peg Breen, president of the New York Landmarks Conservancy.
Located in the Greenpoint Historic District in Brooklyn, the red-brick Union Baptist Church was completed in 1863 and is among Brooklyn’s finest Early Romanesque Revival-style church buildings.
