How crazy is Brooklyn for Barack? Even people who want to give $1,000 to the candidate can’t get into a hot fundraiser on Monday — it’s already packed with people giving the maximum.
So don’t bother heading to Bubby’s in DUMBO for the “Bridge to Somewhere: A Brooklyn Evening for Barack Obama” event on Monday night, said David Shenk, an author and organizer of the event.
“All 350 tickets are sold — and that’s the most the room can hold,” said Shenk, a Park Sloper.
Too bad, as Brooklyn’s own They Might Be Giants will be performing and comic Andy Borowitz will be cracking wise.
The good news is that on Tuesday, the Music Hall of Williamsburg will host “Rock for Barack,” another fundraiser featuring comedy and music.
“It’s like going to a food fair, there will be something for everyone,” said comedian Lizz Winstead, a co-founder of “The Daily Show.”
In addition to Winstead, other performers include comic Eugene Mirman; the Brooklyn-based indie rock group, The Fiery Furnaces; Guster; and several secret musical guests.
But who wants to rock for Barack when you can sit on the sofa for Obama? After all, Tuesday night is the next presidential debate, so many boosters are looking for more low-key events, such as the debate-watching parties that are taking place all over.
“I was looking for a way to get involved…and realized that the easiest thing I could do was bring the fundraising to my home,” said Kimtoya Williams of Prospect Heights, who will play host and bundler on Tuesday night.
The Williamses asked for a minimum donation of $20 and are offering their guests home-cooked soul food.
Not everyone, of course, wants Obama; Park Slopers for McCain/Palin had a vice-presidential debate party on Thursday to “cheer on our supergirl Sarah,” according to the pre-debate announcement.
The group, whose numbers are estimated to be at least a handful or two, will likely have another gathering on Tuesday.
UPDATED ON FRIDAY, OCT 10: No one showed up to “cheer on” Palin on Thursday night at Blue Ribbon, so our estimate about the size of Park Slopers for McCain/Palin may have actually been off!
