Leif Ericson Park morphed into a Byzantine gallery of “oohs” and “aahs” as traditional Chinese lion dancers shared the spotlight with Buddhist martial artists – and Japanese sword−fighters divvied up the attention with Tahitian steppers – during the Asian Pacific Heritage Festival in Bay Ridge.
The sixth annual salute, hosted by state Senator Marty Golden, celebrated the borough’s deep−rooted Asian−Pacific community, drawing nationalists and curious thrill−seekers to the emerald empire, 67th Street and 7th Avenue, for a festive day, featuring a showcase of Asian arts, crafts and food.
The event was held, said Golden, to recognize “the many important contributions that Asian⁄Pacific Americans have made to our community.”
