Mom, dad and the kids help wage war on a killer disease %u2013 plus hailed the courage of victims and survivors %u2013 during the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) annual Relay for Life benefit in Bay Ridge.
The 11th annual marathon fundraiser %u2013 a national signature event for the ACS %u2013 drew big-hearted Brooklynites and others to the Fort Hamilton Athletic Field, Colonial Road and Narrows Avenue, where they walked the track in relay style to raise funds for cancer research.
Among the participants were teams of individuals representing corporations, clubs, neighborhoods, churches, families and cancer patients, who culminated the walk by illuminating lumineria bags, inscribed with names of deceased loved ones, which were placed around the track.
Since 1985, Relay for Life has spread to thousands of communities around the country, and the world.
